BiogeoLab
Biogeochemistry - Biogeography - Land-Use Change
Research Interests
•Land-use and land-cover change effects on on biogeochemistry and biodiversity
•Ecosystem structure and function in human-dominated landscapes
•Terrestrial carbon cycle dynamics
•Plant-litter-soil organic matter decomposition continuum
•Mechanisms of soil organic matter formation and stabilization
Research in my group integrates field and lab experimental work across different scales, from landscape-level effects of changes in land use on species composition and carbon pools, to molecular changes in organic matter chemistry. We use stable and radioisotopes and multiple analytical techniques to quantify process rates, identify sources and sinks, and better understand underlying mechanisms controlling stabilization and loss of organic matter and elements within and across ecosystems.
Prospective Graduate Students and Post-Docs
If you are interested in joining my research group, please send me your CV and a message describing your research interests and experience. You can find more information about Geography at UW-Madison on the graduate program website. Opportunities exist for collaborations with the Center for Sustainability and the Global Environment (SAGE), the Center for Climatic Research (CCR), the Land Tenure Center (LTC), the Center for History and the Environment (CHE), Wisconsin Ecology (WE), and the Center for Limnology (CFL).
